New Series: Breaking Bad Habits
I have bad habits. I'm sure you do too. Don't deny it, c'mon everyone has them. I have more than a few, and some of them drive me nuts. They are simple things that if I could stop, fix, etc. my life would be easier, more organized or just better in general. I'm going to try out a new series called Breaking Bad Habits. I don't want to overwhelm myself, since habits are just that- things you you do without thinking, involuntary actions. So, for me to say I'm going to break all my bad habits in a week is just unreasonable. Rather, I will focus on one at a time. I'll start with one for a couple weeks, and once I think I have that one nipped in the bud, I'll add another. It's kind of like the cleaning challenge- adding a new task every couple weeks.
I'd love for you to join me in the challenge. Can you break a bad habit in 2 weeks? Obviously you need to choose what bad habit you want to break, but we can still check in together!
Breaking Bad Habits #1: Moving Items to Their Wrong Location
This BH is a little hard for me to describe, but I'll give it a go. I have an awful tendency to move things multiple times before getting them to their final destination. I let handwashed dishes dry on towels on the oven.
See them drying over there?
Well in the morning, those dishes are usually in the way to make coffee or if I'm making a breakfast using the oven. I can't tell you how many times I have just scooted the dishes over. Me = Stupid sometimes. If I would add on maybe 30 more seconds, I could have just put them away. Other times I have something that needs to go in the basement. Where do I put it? Well on the stairs to go down. Now, if I made a daily trip or two to the basement every day, this wouldn't be a big deal, but I don't. So stuff will pile up on the stairs for days or weeks at a time until I decide to go down there...and who knows if I actually think to grab the accumulated stuff!
Over the next two weeks, I'm really going to focus on putting things in their right spot, the first time. If I pick something up, intending to put it away, that's exactly what I'm going to do. My only exception is for things that go upstairs. Throughout the evening, when cleaning up, rather than going up and down the stairs a million times, I can set things on the stairs for one or two trips up before going to bed.
Are you going to join in the, um...fun? If so, let me know in the comments what bad habit you are going to be working on for the next two weeks. Or, take it one step further and blog about it! Grab the Breaking Bad Habits button, create a post and then link it below in the InLinkz! I'd love to read about your bad habit! We'll check in next week to see how it's going and then the following week to see if we've broken the habits!

My husband never puts things back where they go. I end up w/ little piles of his stuff while I'm cleaning house. If it goes upstairs, I pile it there until I go up. If it goes in the basement, it ends up on the kitchen counter by the basement door until I head down that way. I go both directions several times a day (no bathroom on main level), so I use my laundry basket to take it all up at once.
