The Never Ending Project Ends Tonight

The foyer has been the ugly duckling in the house for the last few months. It of course started out ugly...as did the rest of the house in a cosmetic way.

So the first step was to sand down and refinish the wood floors along with the rest of the first floor right when we bought the house. Look at me go!

And Done!

Next was paint. We tried a blue, thinking it was what we wanted, it was not. I was aiming for blue gray and got gray BLUE. Too much blue. Now, we are talking a two story foyer, so this wasn't an easy task the first time. And this go round, we really wanted to change out the light, because as you can see, this beauty just wasn't really cutting it. Brass gives me hives.

So we borrowed some sketchy scaffolding from a friend and Carl got to work. But before he could do that, I needed to pick a color. I looked and looked and looked for paint. Bought multiple samples. Nothing was really jumping at me. So I went for one more run to the store, grabbed a swatch, and that was it. No sample. No testing. Just painting. And I couldn't be happier! It turned out great if I do say so myself :)

Peace out light!

You can see the difference in paint color here.

So here she is, in all her glory! The FOYER!

So what did we do?

*Stripped down and refinished the existing hardwood floors
*Painted twice...final color for the blue walls is Valspar Woodlawn Silver Brook, Matte
*Painted "hallway" walls light taupe- color is Ace Sierra Madre, flat
*Bought a new foyer light, and 3 hallway lights (one downstairs, two up)
*Bought the entry table- from JCP
*Mirror from Overstock.com (We were very limited on the size due to the stairs, and thankfully Overstock had the exact size we needed)
*Bought accessories- Hobby Lobby, Lowe's, Bed, Bath & Beyond and Target

What's left to do?
*We will put in new carpet as soon as our house fund can pay for it, hopefully within the next year.

  2. I knew I recognized that final paint color! I'm using it in my mudroom. (I've been half done for the last 2 months. lol) It's a great color, isn't it? Everything looks great!
