The last of Carl's birthday surprises is on Friday. I'll be making him dinner and he will get his presents that day. He always does such a wonderful job with my birthdays, so I really wanted this one to be memorable!
Today, I worked on the menu, and threw together the tablescape to make sure I had everything I needed. So with no further ado, the menu:
Hors D'oeuvres
- Cheese & Grape Platter
- Merlot
Main Course
- Seared Filet Mignon with a Blue Cheese Herb Butter
- Potato Parmesan Cake
- Asparagus Mimosa
Dessert
- Flourless Chocolate Cake
- Coffee
And the quick mock up of the tablescape:
I also worked on my time line as I feel that is key to any sort of planned event, party, dinner, etc. Not only does it tell you if your tasks are realistically going to get done, but also helps avoid forgetting something!
Tuesday:
Complete grocery/shopping lists
Wednesday:
Grocery shop
Tidy up the house- other than the dining room
Thursday:
Sam's club for additional groceries, as well as part of Carl's present
One other stop for Carl's present (may get done on Wednesday)
Clean dining room
Clean all serving dishes and have them ready for Friday evening
Make the flourless cake
Wrap the presents
Make the cheese & grape tray
Friday:
(Carl's flight lands at 5:30p- so he should be home at approximately 6pm which gives me 1 hour and 45 minutes to get dinner and myself ready)
I will start the two sides at 5pm so they are done just before 6pm, and I'll keep them warm in the oven.
I won't start the steaks until about 5 minutes before Carl will arrive.
Is it helpful to see the time line? Is it worth the effort to put it in the planning posts? I am happy to help...if it's helping!
What are you tackling this lovely Tuesday?
Hi Molly! I have to say that reading your blog each day inspires me so much! You have me cleaning/organizing like never before. I also want to say this to you: I am so impressed with the commitment that you put forth in your marriage/home!! I married young (19) and divorced young (25) - I wish the 2 of us had put forth 1/2 the effort as you and Carl! Anyway - I am remarried now (2/28/09!! :-) and am learning from a youngster like you! Keep up the good work! Ta Ta for now!
ReplyDeleteBlue cheese herb butter for the fish? I think I'm salivating. :)

ReplyDeleteMegs...I played a dirty trick on you. It's Filet Mignon (I fixed the post)....but believe me, that butter is good on ANYTHING!
