There's been a mishap in my freezer. Some wonderfully frozen strawberries oozed there way out of their container and hopped all over the walls and other contents. It was the strawberry goo mess that made me think to clean it, but blech, it needed cleaning even without that mess!
I have a good routine when it comes to cleaning out the fridge. I always make sure to go through it on Wednesday nights (garbage night) and discard any old items. Usually once a month, I will actually clean off the shelves. But the freezer doesn't get nearly enough attention! Tonight was the perfect night to tackle it and clean it out.
The Process:
1. Turn the freezer off- no need to cool an open freezer.
2. Fix a hot soapy bucket of water (Non-Toxic solution: 1/2 gal water, 1/4 c baking soda & 1/2 c vinegar)
3. Remove all the contents of the freezer including the shelves
4. Clean the shelves over the sink with solution
5. Clean the interior of the freezer
6. Turn the freezer back on
7. Put shelves and all food items back inside
The main goal is to do this as efficiently as possible. The shorter amount of time the freezer is open and off, the better.
Try to organize your shelves by items. My top shelf is desserts, second is potatoes, pasta and bread, third shelf is veggies and shrimp, fourth is frozen meals, and the bottom has all our meats. Miscellaneous items are kept in the shelves in the door.
Oh, it's all so much better now! It's still pretty early tonight. Go on! Tackle something!

I planned to tackle something today, but I decided to go to football practice instead, so Thursday I'm tackling the living room and getting it more organized! (And sadly your pictures aren't working for me!)
ReplyDeleteToday's pics aren't working for me either :(
ReplyDeleteOk, should be all better now!
ReplyDeleteI really need to do this. I don't know how you stay so motivated! My house is a mess! Ugh. Hate it. I think one of these weekends I'm going to go room by room and do a good deep clean. Any suggestions on where to start?
ReplyDeleteI'm not certain where my motivation comes from, but having guests over definitely helps! Maybe plan for a nice sit down dinner with some family and/or friends in a month or so. That should help get you in gear! As for where to start, I would go for the room you spend the most time in as you will get the most satisfaction out of it. After seeing how happy you will are with that one clean space, hopefully it will be infectious! Plus- join the cleaning challenge! It should definitely help!
ReplyDeleteMy freezer is in dire need of attention! :)
