Tackle It Tuesday

While I was heating up my chili for lunch today, I noticed our microwave was less than fresh. And you know I love me some Biggest Loser, so anytime I can do a Tackle It Tuesday while watching TV is a bonus. So I thought, perfect! It's one of those things you don't see all the time, and usually when you do, you are in a hurry. I mean, it is the microwave, the answer to quick dinner since the 1950s. Tonight, I'll tell you how I clean my micro. And while I'm not completely green, I am eco-conscious, and this is a lovely green way to clean!

1. Take a glass dish and fill it half way with water. Add a decent dash of vinegar.

2. Place it in the microwave and heat it for 5 minutes. The goal of this is to loosen any stuck on food.

(ew.)

3. Take the dish out- be cautious it will be HOT! Now, you can use whatever you'd like to clean out the microwave, but I just used a cloth and the water vinegar mixture. Again, just be cautious, it's hot. Whatever you use, it should be fairly simple, as the stuck on goodness should be loose.

4. Take out the microwave plate and clean that just like you would any other dish. You can put it in your dishwasher if you'd like as well. I just hand clean mine. I'm too impatient. I like immediate results ;)

5. I like to make it nice and fresh, and since I used part of a lemon with my dinner tonight, the timing was perfect. Take a cut lemon, cut side down, and place it on a plate with a little water on it. Heat that for about 3 minutes. When it's done, your microwave will smell lemony good!
(yay!)

Since the lemon was all softened up, I decided to give it just one more use tonight. I cleaned the sink drain. (1 part baking soda, followed by 1 part vinegar. Cover with a cloth for 5 minutes. Rinse with boiling water.) And I followed it up with grinding the lemon in the garbage disposal. Mmmmm...smell all that lemon!

That's it folks! What did you tackle tonight? It's still pretty early. If you haven't done anything, why not tackle the microwave? You'll be happy you did it. However, you might find you've become awful protective of your new clean microwave...making sure anything that enters has a cover. What are you still doing here? Git to tacklin ;)

  2. You just inspired me. Our microwave has been grossing me out for longer than I care to admit. I do the same sort of thing to clean ours, but instead of vinegar I add lemon juice to some water and then heat.

  3. I was thinking the same thing as I heated up mashed potatoes for lunch. However, I never got to mine today. Tomorrow's another day though. I will definitely try the lemon trick.
