New Year Challenge Begins!!

Well my fellow neat freaks, or soon to be neat freaks, it's time. The New Year is here, your house is a mess from all that holiday madness (I know mine is!), and you are ready to get your butt in gear! Can I get an aye aye?

The basic process for this challenge will be that we really clean the entire house in a matter of a few weeks. This way, the rest of the year is about maintaining, keeping up with things like the Happy House Daily Processes, and monthly projects. I've found when you start with a clean slate, it's much easier to keep clean!

I'll introduce the room(s), and give you my process of how I'm going to clean with my goals. You will be able to modify them to fit YOUR needs. The ultimate goal though is to just stay on track with the room I am in at that time.

So, first on the docket? The BEDROOMS!
You probably spend about a 1/3 of your life in your bedroom, if not more, why not make it a relaxing, clean place to spend your time? Wouldn't you love to start and end your day in a completely organized, efficient and refreshing way? I know I do! Here's what we're going to do:

Closet & Drawer Systems
  • Empty
  • Clean Shelves & Drawers with all purpose cleaner
  • Sort Clothing- discard any unwanted items, my target number is 10-15
  • Put clothing back- I organize my hanging shirts by sleeve length, then by color. Pants go by color. Skirts, suits and athletic pants go in the bottom right hand side. Shirts in drawers get rolled as opposed to folded- fits much better that way! Sweaters are folded and place on the above shelves, again by color.

Bed
  • Remove all bedding and launder
  • Remove everything under the bed- sort, giveaway pile, organize
  • Slide bed over and vacuum underneath
  • Dust & clean fan and or light fixture
  • Dust entire bed frame
  • Move bed back
  • Replace under bed items...or not if they found their way to the garbage!
Room- Clean from top to bottom (dust falls...)
  • Nightstands & Shelves- dust, organize, purge- keep them simple- treat yourself with a vase of fresh flowers!
  • Clean windows- including sills, frame, edges, etc.
  • Vacuum

So what are you still doing here? You've got bedrooms to clean! Oh, perhaps you want to know how long you have to get all this done. For this project, you have one week (I told you it was a challenge). We'll check back in next weekend to see how everyone did! Think you can do it? I know you can! I'll be posting the button above in the side bar so you can share it on your blog!

  7. OMG - I thought I was the only person in the world who organized their closet by sleeve length/color! My husband thinks I'm insane. I am overjoyed! Congrats on the new job, BTW!
