Happy House Cleaning Challenge: Week 3

Oh my goodness it's late. I have an excuse. You care right? I mean, if the excuse is legitimate I won't get bashed in blog world. I.just.finished.working. And to be honest, I'm not really sure if I finished everything I needed to get done...but it is almost tomorrow anyway, so it can wait until I sleep take a nap.

Ok, focus. Blog. Challenge. Here we go. So, you are still here. I mean you must be if you are reading this. Great! So glad you are sticking around! How did last week go? Harder than the first? I know you all did awesome, no doubt about it. Have no idea what I'm talking about? Go here and here for the 1st and 2nd weeks of the challenge. It's never too late to join!

My results:
Make the Bed: 7/7
Empty the Sink: 7/7 *Bonus Appliance Wipe Down Complete!

Woo hoo! I almost forgot about the sink a couple nights, but then I remembered. I just didn't want to disappoint all of you :) Don't forget to tell me how you did in the comments below.

Now it's time to tell you what Week 3 is all about, that is if you haven't already played this game or looked ahead of course.

Week 3: Clear the Clutter!

This task helps with daily messes. Most people spend a good portion of their evening in one room. For me, it's my main living space. It's where I create the most daily mess. It's our family room. You know, our newly furnished family room (yay!).

The goal is to leave that space decluttered at the end of the night. Don't worry if your space isn't easily declutter...able? (ok, now the words are getting more ridiculous) Make your task to spend 5 minutes working on cleaning and organizing that space. A great place to start is to take everything that doesn't have a home and make three piles: throw away, donate, and give it a permanent home. Throughout the week, take care of those piles. Hopefully by next week, you will be at a maintaining level. That's where I am, so it's basically taking the dishes to the kitchen, putting away my laptop, books, magazines, blankets, etc. and just tidying up the space.

So, your task in a nut shell. Before you go to bed, clear out your main living space area, just ONE room! If it's an overwhelming task, start with 5 minutes a night until you are looking at a wonderfully organized space and everything in it's "home" spot. You'll wake up to a sleek living space just waiting for your arrival that evening after a long day!

Let's Recap with our new task:
1. Make the Bed!
2. Empty the Sink! *Appliance Wipe Down (do it again :) )
3. Clear the Clutter!

Before I go, again, don't forget to fill me in on how you did on the two tasks this week in the comments! Oh oh and of course you can link if you are blogging about it. I love reading your entries! We'll check in next week to see how you did with all 3 tasks.

Lastly, HUGE shout outs to all the participants! Clicky names go to their blogs so you can check out their progress!

  1. Success on the sink! Stats:7/7. Much needed after such a poor showing on the bed making. So ready for this clutter clearing challenge. This will be a challenge to just get the hubby to join in.

  2. Aww...thanks for the shoutout. I'm really doing horrible on this challenge though. I need to get my butt into gear.

We were out of town for Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, so I'm not including those days in my total. So everything is out of 4.

    Make bed: 1/4
Empty sink: 0/4 (I am horrible at doing this. Doing this every night would make a huge difference in our house. We just let the dishes pile up.)
    Wipe of appliances: 0/1

  4. This week was a lot harder than the previous week. I was probably only about 3/7 on this one. My husband made it more difficult a few nights because he was doing things in the evening and would come home after I'd eaten and cleaned up and get things dirty and put them in the sink! I will try to work harder on this moving forward.

Empty the Sink: 5/7- not so hooray!
*Bonus Appliance Wipe Down Complete! (I loved that! They DO deserve a bath!)

  6. 7/7 on both but...I think we only cooked twice last week since we were both working crazy hours at our store for the holiday weekend. And I forgot the bonus appliance wipe down! Which I'll do this week instead.

  8. Make the bed: 6/7- the one day was the day I worked super early and DH didn't make the bed when he got up then when I got home I crashed on the couch and the bed just never got made.
    Empty the sink: 4/7
Wipe down appliances: 1/1- the microwave was super nasty!
The room I'll be decluttering this week will be the computer room. We spend a lot of time in here and it really shows!

  9. Make the bed: 7/7 I think there were a couple mornings when I forgot to make my bed but made up for it as soon as I got home from work.

Emtpy the sink: 3/7 Clearly emptying the sink is a challenge for me especially in the evening and of course I forgot about the bonus appliance wipe down. I guess I will add that on this week.

  10. I made it 7/7 bed and 7/7 sink this week! I'm pretty pumped - since it's just me and my dishwasher doesn't work, I thought clearing the sink would be harder. I just made sure to start soapy water before I started eating dinner!

  11. Well, still a slow start, since I was out of town and the hubs doesn't really clean when I'm not here! However, I'm now back to normal schedule! Can't wait to have a nice clean home!

  12. Oh gosh, things were a little crazy around here with the holiday weekend and some work stuff.

    Make the bed: 5/7
    Empty the sink: 3/7
    Appliance wipe down: totally spaced!

I knew the sink would be hard. But, I am going to try to do better this week. Do I get an "A" for effort? :)

  13. 7/7 on both this week! But I forgot to do the bonus appliance wipe down. Maybe I'll do that today.

  14. Make the Bed; maybe 5/7
Empty the sink: 7/7! I forgot the appliance wipe-down, but every Sat. I do an all over cleaning of things that need it in our kitchen, so some of the appliances did get cleaned.

Looking forward to clear the clutter! My goal is the family room, too. And the dining room table - for some reason it always accumulates our junk mail, work bags, laptops, keys, etc...

  17. Awwww, I feel so special! My name is in there!
Well, I'm not gonna lie....this week was a little rocky. I have a teething 6-month old. It's been rough. :) BUT I did good on my sink clearing! 6 1/2 out of 7! (I'm only counting a half because I did leave a crusty dish soaking that I probably could have cleaned that night if I was really motivated. But I did it in the morning!!!) The bed making really suffered this week though...4/7.

  18. Make the bed: 7/7
    Empty the sink: 5/7
    bonus task: Completed Wednesday!

I'm horrile with dishes and emptying the sink at the end of the night. My trick was to make it a priority to do it right after dinner. Plus, I'm working on keeping up on the dishes during the day.

Clearing the clutter will be a good one for me this week. I'm notorious for random pieces of things laying around.

Thanks for the motivation...hope you get a chance to relax this weekend!

  20. This week was so crazy at work, especially with us planning to leave the country for two weeks this Tuesday, so I forgot to count. But I think we were approximately 6/7 on bed making, and probably about 4/7 on sink emptying. No bonus wipe down however! Looking forward to the clutter week. I'll only be here for 3 days of it, but definitely need to work on this habit!

  24. I did okay this wee:

    Bed made 3/6
    Sink empty 6/6
(we were gone one night..but it was still clean when we left!)
Appliances wiped- done! (Whole kitchen got wiped down, thanks to some unwanted six-legged visitors...ants!!) Kitchen is super clean now!

I'm excited for this week- I'm ahead, took 3+ bags to Goodwill over the weekend. We're moving so its time to purge!

  25. I wish I would have joined the challenge in the beginning, my house needs some serious cleaning!

  26. Oh Man - I'm late on posting this one. I went out of town for half of the week so I went 7/7 on the clearing the sink, though 4 days I was gone (is that cheating?)
