Happy House Cleaning Challenge: Week 8

Can you believe it? It's week 8 already! We've been at this for 2 months now. I'm so glad you are still here with me! First things first, let's get the ugly part out of the way. Ok, maybe not ugly, but not perfect. But who's perfect anyway?

1. Make Your Bed! 7/7
2. Empty the Sink! 7/7
3. Clear the Clutter! 7/7
4. Sweep the Kitchen Floor! 6/7
5. Sort the Mail!
7/7
6. Spray Your Shower! 6/7
7. Write It Down! 6/7

Not bad by any means, but I was still annoyed that I had forgotten a couple things. I'll blame it on the crazy weekend. Now I feel better. Oh, and I also realized week 7's task was a tad unclear. It's not the tasks themselves that we are worried about. It's the task of taking the time to write it down in a list that you will feel accountable towards. So when I say I was 6/7, that means I wrote my 3 tasks down the night prior 6 out of the 7 times. Granted, it is important to actually DO the tasks, but right now, I just want you to get in the habit of thinking of what things need to be done the next day. Make sense?

So now this week, we still need to add something new. I like this one. I like it a lot. Want to know why? Because it is my eminent downfall. It's mostly because it hasn't become routine for me to do it, and I just don't think about it. So here we go. Time to make it routine.

WEEK 8: Organize Your Outerwear

That's a bit cryptic, so let's explain. This includes anything that you remove when you walk in the door. My items are shoes, coat and purse. They all have homes. Nice ones at that. And I'm good about hanging my purse and coat, but my shoes gravitate to the laundry room. It.must.stop. And it will, starting tonight. My frequently worn shoes will go in the front closet in the designated baskets and my less worn shoes go in the Shoes Under in my bedroom. Coat goes in the front closet, and the purse is hung on the rack in the laundry room. Nothing crazy difficult, but it should be done daily.

So, what do you need to do to organize your outerwear? Do you have a home for those things? If not, make one! Once everything has a home in your house, the clutter will disappear faster than you imagined! Also, don't forget to POST YOUR RESULTS!! New to the challenge? That's ok too. Join in now!

Oh...and one more time with our new task included:
1. Make Your Bed!
2. Empty the Sink!
3. Clear the Clutter!
4. Sweep the Kitchen Floor!
5. Sort the Mail!

6. Spray Your Shower!
7. Write It Down!
8. Organize Your Outerwear!

  2. Not really a good week for me, but we were out of town for the weekend.
    Bed: 2/7
    Sink: 5/7
    Clutter: 4/7
    Kitchen floor: 1/7
    Mail: 5/7
    Shower: 5/7
    Write it down: 4/7

Good idea this week - we have a shoe rack by our side door where we normally come in, and one of my plans this weekend is to overhaul the area and get all of our sandles put away (so sad summer is gone!). This is a great challenge to keep the area clean!

  6. I went home to visit my family last weekend which had me leaving on the Thur and returning on the Mon so I feel completely "off" from my normal routine.

I was impressed that my DH made the bed on Monday (and surprised me with a GREAT update on our bathroom) so:
    1. Make your bed: 7/7
    2. Empty the Sink: 6/7 (I ran the dishwasher last night and DH had a glass out I didn't know about)
    3. Clear the Clutter: 5/7
    4. Sweep the kitchen floor: 0/7 (this is a bad one. My daily chores are overdue. Blame it on my trip and/or the beautiful fall weather we are having in AZ)
    5. Sort the Mail: 6/7 (I have a pile to go through downstairs from yesterday)
    6. Spray your shower: 6/7 (I do it everyday but I haven't quite trained DH yet)
    7. Write it Down: I just saw this one from last time so I will start it today.

We don't have a lot of outerwear in Tucson but we do have our "outdoor" work flip flops that tend to rest in our foyer area. I will make their home in the living room closet. I like your idea of having your purse on a hook in the laundry room which is the room for us that leads to the garage. I may do the same thing.

  7. Great work everyone! Keep it up!

Dawna- your husband's glass totally doesn't count! YOU did the dishes. You can't help it if they sneak one in :) 7/7 for you!
